As part of this programme, early childhood centres work towards the Healthy Heart Award - the first of its kind in Australasia. School Food Programme - By registering with the School Food Programme, in its current form since 1999, schools are given free resources that help identify and address nutritional issues within both the school and its wider community. Some of the changes that result from working with this programme include developing a food and nutrition policy, menu redevelopment for school canteens and lunchrooms, as well as curriculum activities. Positive changes by the school are recognised with either a Heartbeat, Bronze, Silver or Gold award.

Pick the TickFood industry/Pick the Tick
The Heart Foundation offers food and nutrition consultancy to the food industry, outlets and caterers as well as the 'Pick the Tick' program to help consumers make healthier food choices. Products carrying the Tick have to meet specific standards regarding saturated fat, salt, sugar and fibre content.
Pick the Tick is New Zealand's most recognised and trusted food approval program. As the Heart Foundation is a charity, Pick the Tick must be self-funding to operate. Funds are generated by charging a licence fee to companies who choose to participate in the program. All funds are put back into the program for research and education, testing Tick products and program administration.

Children learn age-appropriate skipping skills from the curriculum-based educational resource. Since its beginnings in 1985, more than one million New Zealand children have participated in JRFH and the programme has established itself as a leading physical education resource for schools. Funds raised on "Jump Off" days allow the Heart Foundation to provide this resource to schools free of charge and supports research into cardiovascular disease.
